Fueled Cafe is the new espresso, salad and juice bar to hit the streets of downtown Toronto at Bloor and Ossington. It's the perfect afternoon spot for you to cozy with your laptop to get some work done with a good cup of fresh coffee (bonus points for free wi-fi). It's also a great destination for lunch on-the-go, or after work when you're feeling hungry.
Founded by owners Roman, Arthur and Igor, Fueled Cafe is a milestone of many years of hard work, friendship and determination. The idea of opening a cafe dedicated to serving healthy and tasty food was in simple talks for a while between Roman, Arthur and Igor. The idea came into fruition when all three owners pooled their ideas together to start their dream. After months of scoping a prime location and renovations, Fueled officially opened its doors in August 2014.
The space gives an earthy, casual and hip vibe. And the staff? All down-to-earth and really friendly! If you're in search of a well-brewed cup of java, you have your choice of an espresso, americano, macchiato, plus more. Their coffee is brewed using fresh Pilot Big Bro beans through a Simonelli machine, and they always ensure to swap out with a fresh pack every one to two weeks. Talk about fresh quality control.
I absolutely love the Lush Meadow juice, a refreshing combination of cucumber and pear with a splash of lime, ginger and lemongrass. All juices come in one size of 16 oz, the equivalent of a medium sized drink priced at $6.60.
The Vampire juice, as malevolent as it sounds, is in fact pleasantly sweet and tangy with beets, apple, carrot and lime. If you love beets, you'll love this.
Smoothies generally have an added benefit of fiber and here at Fueled their concoctions are not only unique, but also very tasty. The Silk smoothie is a crowd pleaser with orange, apple, lemongrass, mango and almond milk. My foodie-in-crime, being the protein fanatic that he is, opted for the addition of raw vegan protein which came in at an extra $2.
Many conventional smoothies tend to have an abundance of sugar whether we like to believe it or not. The Choco smoothie contains banana dates and cocoa, a delicious combination with no extra sugar additives. It's sweet nonetheless, and pleasant and comforting.
The salads are generous in size and packed with all the things that vegetarian dreams are made of. The Crunch has all the classic ingredients of a house salad, dressed with almond lime and a side of smoked hummus, which I could easily eat on its own like ice cream. The Crunch is surprisingly filling and my numero uno salad choice for lunch. If you're feeling a little adventurous, go for the 'Beets' with tahini dressing, spicy cashew cream, figs, and more.
The rice boxes feature a wide variety of fresh ingredients such as roasted sweet potatoes, avocado, beets, lentils, radish and scallions. The portion size is more than enough for a single meal (unless you came with a large appetite), so the cardboard box will come in handy for you to save some of the good stuff for later.
Fueled is the kind of place where you go grab a meal or a freshly made drink and come out feeling recharged and good about yourself. It's not everyday you can find an espresso bar with options like almond milk and agave syrup. They're open Tuesdays to Sundays from 11:00am-7:00pm. Be sure to swing by when you're in the area. I know I'll be back!
